Friends Matter as We Grow Older

Me. Kat, Tosh at the Range CafeMy BFF of over 50 years, Katrina, me, and my Hubby, James, are eating breakfast out.

Kat and I hadn't seen each other for close to 10 years, and when she heard how ill I had been, she flew in and stayed with us for six days.

She got me to our community swimming pool and had me walk in a park I'd wanted to visit down by the Rio Grande River. We also took the train to Santa Fe and ate at one of the best New Mexican Restaurants in Santa Fe, Tomasita's, a restaurant that will celebrate 50 years in business this year. And here we are, goofing it up, two cats in a hat at Tomasita's.

It is SO important to keep in touch with close and dear friends as we age. We may not have the time or energy to keep up with a big group of friends, but if we pick friends who uplift and support us, our lives will be richer and fuller. And make sure you have FUN.

I recently heard a presentation by Qigong Master Mingtong Gu, who talked about conscious aging and Qigong. His main points were:

  • Move your body naturally by walking, doing housework (don't you love that one?), etc. His point was movement doesn't have to be an exercise routine, but it has to happen.
  • Have a sense of purpose. Say to yourself. "I'm here to...". Make it simple, and remember that everyday life and enjoyment are simple enough. Chasing fame is not important.
  • Have a feeling of connection with other humans and create community by coming together consistently.
  • Create a sense of connection with the land and nature. Have everyday activities that connect with nature and our precious earth.
  • Food! Eat locally harvested, clean food and enjoy it as part of a daily ritual. Enjoy your food, mindfully eating  and see the nourishment entering your body.
  • Reduce stress.

He also said we should embrace aging and death as a natural part of life and discover the deeper meaning of aging. And make sure we take time to discover our new priorities in life.

He suggested that our first priority is to respect ourselves and embrace aging. Embracing aging also means embracing our death, a natural part of our life cycle. Aging and death are inseparable.

I'm learning this every day and embracing all that is, even the scary bits. Are you with me?

Inspiration

"Original Brilliance is the light that radiates from the inner smile that acknowledges our course, the curriculum we have mastered, and the secret we share with ourselves that we are on the way to complete fulfillment, the orgasmic realization of self. Crones embody this, and that is why it is a sacrilege to allow the theft of false perfectionism to steal the victory from us. In the crone years, become a fierce warrior of Original Brilliance. You have earned it. You are wearing it. Look in the mirror and love it. Love the ways in which your flesh is returning home to gravity. Love the wisdom that transcends commonplace ideas of beauty, the acquisitive patriarchal definitions."

- Paid subscriptions at any level support my work and enable me to fulfill my purpose of empowering women to age consciously.

- Paid subscriptions also help us pay our living expenses. My husband is only able to work two days a week due to three serious health issues; I want and need to help with paying the bills. Our Social Security doesn't go very far these days!

Additional Paid Subscription Extras:

- A one-time complimentary Tarot Card reading/mentoring session for each paid subscriber.
◦ I'll do four individual ones each month for those who have not yet received one.
◦ It's on a first-come, first-served basis, so I'll keep a list of those who have already had one and those who are waiting for one.
◦ I want to be sure every paid subscriber has a chance to experience a complimentary Tarot reading.

- I'm also currently offering paid Tarot reading/mentoring sessions, and my regular charge is $90 per 45-minute session. Paid subscribers will receive my discounted price of $65.

- My third Extra will be a monthly webinar on topics related to Conscious Aging.

These will occasionally feature otherwise Elderwomen sharing their gifts of wisdom.

I have a commitment for the first one from my friend, Lasell Bartlett, for her super powerful "Writing from the Inside" workshop, for which I pull Tarot cards for the writing prompts. I'll provide more details in my next L-L.

This is scheduled for September 23rd from 9 am - 10:30 am MDT. I hope you can make it, as it's transformative.

Phew, I'm glad that's done! I've been working on allowing what I write/do to be perfectly imperfect, and I love how it feels. Perfectionism has been one of my most significant issues, and it feels so good to let it go.

Thanks so much to all my currently free subscribers. Your participation has made it possible for me to transition to this new model and be able to offer more value.

Love and many Blessings to you - Taru
